Alexa and Carter exchange vows at the outdoor ceremony at White Oaks Farm in Longs, SC

Alexa and Carter’s ceremony at White Oaks Farm

White Oaks Farm is a private wedding estate on Old Buck Creek Road in Longs, South Carolina, set on 43 acres of open lawns, ponds and mature trees in the northern part of the Grand Strand. You may still hear it called White Oaks Plantation. The venue puts it at about 20 minutes from North Myrtle Beach and Little River, which makes it an easy drive for guests staying along the coast.

As a Myrtle Beach wedding photographer, I love how much of the day can happen in one place here. Couples get ready in the bridal and groom’s suites, say their vows outside, move to the covered Veranda for cocktail hour, and finish the night in the Main Hall. That means less time in cars and more time for photos that feel relaxed.

Photographing a Wedding at White Oaks Farm

The grounds are wide and open, so there is room to spread out. The venue offers five ceremony sites: the open air chapel, the waterfront pier, the picture frame lawn, the Hexagon site on a small dock over the pond, and the Emerald Courtyard. Each one gives a different look, from airy and bright to warm and glowing after dark.

Because the property is so open, the light changes the feel of every photo. Overcast days are soft and flattering, and clear evenings bring a golden glow over the lawns and ponds. I plan portrait time around the light we actually have that day, so skin tones stay warm and natural.

Alexa & Carter's White Oaks Farm Wedding

Alexa and Carter were married at White Oaks Farm on June 30, 2024, with a 4:30 ceremony on a soft, cloudy summer afternoon. That gentle light stayed with us all day and suited their palette of white, blush and green.

The morning began quietly. Alexa’s invitation sat among white tulips, ranunculus and eucalyptus, and the getting-ready suite was calm and full of laughter as her bridesmaids helped with the final touches.

Final touches in the bridal suite

Before the ceremony, Alexa stepped outside by the roses to see her dad. He turned, saw her, and pulled her straight into a long hug next to the roses. Moments like that are why I keep my distance and let the day unfold. Nothing needed to be posed.

The hug that said everything

They said their vows outside, framed by white arches with white florals among the trees. Guests filled the white chairs on the lawn, and the open setting kept it feeling personal. Afterward we took portraits around the grounds before everyone moved into the hall for entrances, a first dance and a packed dance floor.

Alexa and Carter’s day is a good example of what White Oaks Farm does best: one beautiful property, soft natural light, and room for every part of the story.

Photo Tips for White Oaks Farm Weddings

  • Plan time for the grounds. With 43 private acres and five ceremony sites, the best spots can be spread out. Twenty to thirty minutes after the ceremony gives us time to explore without rushing.
  • Think about the sun. Summer afternoons are bright and warm. A later ceremony, like Alexa and Carter’s 4:30 start, gives softer light for vows and portraits.
  • Use the clean, simple backdrops. Open lawns, mature trees and the ceremony arches make timeless backgrounds that keep the focus on you.
  • Plan a short sunset session. Step away from the reception for ten minutes as the light turns golden. Those warm, glowing portraits are often a couple’s favorites.
  • Have a rain plan you love. The covered Veranda and the air conditioned Main Hall work well for photos too, so a cloudy forecast is nothing to worry about.
